This is coming to the end of my 3rd week.
Its been three weeks of busting my butt all over this part of my code and everything I did all just seemed to go nowhere or ended up being a completely useless piece of code.

It's either part A of it works but part B doesn't
or part B works and part A doesn't
or when part A and B work its so laggy and inefficient that it is pretty much useless.
I have 2 days left to figure this out before weekend. I hope I pull through it in time to show something decent.

As a sidenote, a thought crossed my mind earlier today,
"why am I working so hard on this project?"

Holidays

Havent posted anything in ages.
Ok rephrase havent posted anything worth reading in ages.
Anyway holidays are finally here but sadly I wont be going anywhere this year.
Been in school everyday since exams ended doing up my FYP.
Man.. I really need to sneak off for a short trip somewhere next sem.
Im getting sian tired and exhausted..
Ive spent every other day preparing for my presentation on friday and man is it tiring.

A brand new semester

Every start of the semester, I end up saying it will be the toughest semester I have gone through

Every semester im right.

Hopefully though, this time will be the last time that I say that.

Once again, im overloading by a couple of MC.

Normally most people wouldnt do that with their FYP, but for some strange reason im doing it.

Work work work

Wow, been really long since I blogged anything at all.
Work really takes away my life man.
Been so busy at work I hardly felt like blogging anything.
I wonder sometimes if im a perm staff or if im an intern... hmm....

Internship

My internships started for 2 days already
Its been relatively interesting so far.

First day I spent my time learning up OpenCV and I came to find that its really quite a powerful library.....
IF YOU KNOW IT ..
Which I dont, so its pretty much useless for me lol.
Its similar to OpenGL in some areas, but on the whole its a whole different ball game,
Both have different uses.
One is for graphics, the other is for vision.

Valued to be worth around 5k.
With a server CPU and workstation graphics, this puts my home computer to shame

Part of my current task requires knowledge on how to "hack" the Kinect.
In order to do that, I had to follow some instructions which were in........

YES CHINESE.... TRADITIONAL CHINESE....
Wth!!!
It took Google translate and various online English tutorials to cross reference everything and get the initial set up running

That was some pretty amazing stuff going on man. Amazing is short for - Impossible!

Thats me and a "basic skeletal" structure being tracked by the system.
I had no part in programming this software. It is opensource and the OpenNI provided these examples.

Actually I also found another cooler program and was playing with it for a while.
Too bad that I didnt quite video myself down.
maybe Ill do it tomorrow ... hmm..

Burgers and such

Too bad my holidays arent going to last very long.

Im all set up for an internship with the Infocom research institute.

Its starting soon and gosh, this means I really dont have much time to chill out.

Even samuel as well. Both of us are starting on may 9th which is really really soon.

Anyway I suddenly had an urge to cook and decided to make a burger.

NUS EE2001 part 2

Thought I would post of couple of picures on the project im working on in school

I fondly refer to it as a nuclear bomb.
Amos drilling the PCB (Printed circuit board - give it a Google if you dont know what is it)

My first PCB, I was so glad that it worked.

Once the PCB was all soldered, it was time to break out the crimp pins
That is a crimp pin.
Normally people use a proper specific tool to do it, but sadly my group was unable to get the tool from the lab
Hence, we ended up using a pair of pilers to crimp everything together.
It was insanely hard, but we

We really made quite a mess of the classroom we were in.
We tried to clear it up though !!

Right about 5 mins before this picture was taken, we realised that we were short of material.
We had underestimated the number of pins to Crimp.
We underestimated by almost 50%
The final tally was about 220 - 240 pins that were crimped using a pair of pliers
A really tiring job.

Once all that was done, my fabrication began.
It was time to break out the rulers, tape measures, pencil and calculator to mark out all the dimensions on the acrylic.

Next time I post it should be on how I fabricated the bomb.

Busy busy

Been very very long since I made a post.
I have been absurdly busy.
My project deadlines are all piling in at one shot and its already almost the last week of school

Thought I would let you guys know im still alive.

Heres a couple of pictures of the screen I was working on just before the mid sem break.
I managed to code out a library to interface it with my chip.
Credits go to various other libraries that were coded by other people.
I looked at maybe about 20 different libraries and adapted one or two of them to work for me
Took me quite some time but my efforts paid off

This was supposed to say "wootsies!"
Can anyone see a pattern between XPPUTJFT" and wootsies!

Touch screen

This is part of what jems touchscreen looks like now

He gave me one of his old NDS replacement screen he ordered but never fixed up.

From the disastrous look you probably know im using it in ways it was clearly not meant for.

I dont have the connector to directly connect the wires to the screen

So I soldered on wires to the contacts that were so freaking thin and small

For comparison, I put a normal wire next to the wires I used.

For a even clearer comparison I put that next to a piece of paper with some writing on it.

Its EVEN smaller than that.

Took me so darn long to get that soldered together man.

And after all that its STILL a terrible solder job.

Goodies

Got this on my table last week and thought what a surprise it was!
The good people at Maxim IC sent me some samples that I ordered a month back
Its amazing how efficient they were and how kind they are to offer samples.

Which kinda sucks cause I have a whole bunch with not much use.

Right tools

When I met the guy last night to collect the LCD for my "nuke" I had a long journey back home and plenty of time to think about stuff

The first thing that came into my mind was get the right tools for your job

I really learnt this 2 nights ago, when I tried to solder (joining two metal contacts together) the NDS touch screen cable to a wire

The pin heads to join were something like 0.5mm (check a ruler to see how far) apart from each other

I got as thin a wire as I could get, modified my soldering iron a little and even got a smaller gauge solder from samuel

Yet, I still had one heck of a tough time soldering it

If I had the right tools for it, would it have been a breeze?

Unlikely

But definitely it would have made things significantly easier

Anyway thats over and the damage is done but at least I think I learnt something there

The hard part is really applying this to into my life

hmmm.....

Drained

Oh my goodness im seriously super tired and drained

The tea from this morning kept me relatively awake for most of the day

BUT I feel crappy now that the caffine is mostly gone

With so much work not done and so much to do and so little sleep, im on the verge of concussing out man.

I havent felt this way for quite awhile.

However....

I dont deserve to complain

Cause when I look at others, I realise that im already considered pretty blessed.

I think there are others who are really suffering a lot more than I am

This ranges from family problems, to work and even school

Looking at them just makes me realise how small my problem can be

I really better try to complain less to my friends

Oh well, for tonight, ill take an early night and be content with it.

Cajon

A Cajón, Spanish for ( 'crate', 'drawer', or 'box'). More commonly known today as a kind of box drum played by slapping the front face with the hands to draw sound from it. The cajón was most likely developed in coastal Peru during the early 1800s by dock workers that used empty crate boxes as drums.

Ok, finally heres an update after like ages of a dry spell
Been working for a while on my Cajon. Roughly since I came back from bintan
Im about 2 weeks into this project and im finally more or less done.
Was delayed by my laziness and my phuket trip - which was rainy again, just like every beach holiday I go for.

Anyway heres some pictures on what ive done so far

I started off looking at some people who have already made their own cajons to try and learn from them ( started off months ago after I saw Mengs picture with her playing it)
Following that I went to ranking sports to get feel of them and eventually got a taste of the sound of the expensive $400 german made entry level models and the cheap copies from china that cost $250
There was a clear and distinct difference in the sound man. I think most people could probably tell right away.
I took down some real world measurements for the size of the cajon at the shop. The uncle gave me this really curious look. It was the "What the heck do you need to measure this for?!?!", look.

Anyway I used what I learned and added in my own ideas to come up with my own designs and drew up some blueprints.
I also did some 3D models in google sketch but im too lazy to dig them up, lol.

After getting my dimensions, I finally went off to get the wood, which upon carrying it out of the shop made me realise that it was so DAMN FREAKING HEAVY.
I asked the uncle for a big plastic bag to hold all the wood and he told me " Nobody use plastic bag one! Sure tear!"
But I managed to get them from him anyway cause I didnt want to get too many splinters on my hands
Heres the picture of the pile wood below.

Dont be fooled by the small quantity!
It was relatively thick, so it ended up DAMN HEAVY

Sadly I didnt quite want to dirty my camera while I was working on it
There was just too much saw dust everywhere for me to risk pictures
Thus I dont have pictures on the process

As with every project of mine, I eventually will run into teething problems
To cut the long story short, I eventually bought another thinner piece of ply wood for the tapa
(front where you strike the cajon on)
It ended up as 3.66mm, super thin compared to the 9mm I first ordered
Fast forward 1 week later, and you will find me adjusting the cajon in an attempt to find a sound that I like/can live with.
Managed to find that 2 days ago and as a result, I began to shape the cajon and sand paper the whole thing down.
Super super super tiring work man, but I eventually managed do enough to satisfy me.

Can anyone guess what I used to make the legs of the cajon?
Its actually a door stopper! The type that gets mounted into the ground.

You put them all together and you will eventually get this

Building this cajon was quite an experince.
It actually told me a lot of things
It taught me why im not a carpenter
It at also taught me why these things can end up being so pricey.
Youre mostly paying for the workmanship rather than the materials.

So how does it sound? Anything like the expensive one?
Well.... It certainly doesnt sound like the expensive ones from Meinl ( 800 bucks )
To me I find it sounds equal to the china ones or better than the china ones.
So to have paid roughly around 1/4 of the price, im already pretty pleased with the sound im getting.

Thank You God

EE3001 is truly and finally over
I realised that its amazing how the project finally came together and is truly not possible without His help thus I just felt I had to "pen" this down.

Thank You God, that I managed to stay healthy enough even when I was sick
Thank You God, that so many things that could have gone wrong did not go wrong
Thank You God, that for that things that did go wrong, He turned them to become a blessing
Thank You God, that the filming, despite being damn tiring, was damn fun
Thank You God, that at least 1 DSLR battery managed to last through to the end
Thank You God, that Saba managed to pull through the video editing on time in the end
Thank You God, that for the report we managed to finish what we needed to on time and that it was something which I feel is truly of a decent standard - even if I do say so myself :)

Thank You God, that I didnt lose my voice before the presentation even though the day before my voice was waning
Thank You God, that I didnt forget my main points and in fact added more points
Thank You God, that timing wasnt strict by the examiners else my added points, which added mins to our time, would have resulted in us getting cut off halfway
Thank You God, that we managed to impress the assessors with our dressing lol!
Thank You God, that we managed to sufficiently maintain the assessors attention during the presentation that they did not interrupt us during the presentation - At least not regarding our content. One of them interrupted us to ask why we didnt use a Sony Vaios instead of Kennys HP laptop -_-""
Thank You God, that I was mentally prepared enough for most of the Q&A questions as alot of them were targeted at the technical section - as expected
Thank You God, that my pricing research was sound enough to appease the assessors during Q&A

Especially Thank You God, for bringing this entire team together -
For Saba as he signed up for the project individually and chose to not do this mod overseas. If not for his video editing expertise, the advert filming would have become rubbish
For Kenny who also chose to do this mod with us, providing more than adequate support on finance and marketing

Crazy pigeons

I just read this one year old article but thought it was pretty funny:

Broadband promised to unite the world with super-fast data delivery - but in South Africa it seems the web is still no faster than a humble pigeon.

A Durban IT company pitted an 11-month-old bird armed with a 4GB memory stick against the ADSL service from the country's biggest web firm, Telkom.

Winston the pigeon took two hours to carry the data 60 miles - in the same time the ADSL had sent 4% of the data.

Telkom said it was not responsible for the firm's slow internet speeds.

The idea for the race came when a member of staff at Unlimited IT complained about the speed of data transmission on ADSL.

He said it would be faster by carrier pigeon.

"We renown ourselves on being innovative, so we decided to test that statement," Unlimited's Kevin Rolfe told the Beeld newspaper.

'No cats allowed'

Winston took off from Unlimited IT's call centre in the town of Howick to deliver the memory stick to the firm's office in Durban.

According to Winston's website there were strict rules in place to ensure he had no unfair advantage.

They included "no cats allowed" and "birdseed must not have any performance-enhancing seeds within".

The firm said Winston took one hour and eight minutes to fly between the offices, and the data took another hour to upload on to their system.

Hundreds of South Africans followed the race on social networking sites Facebook and Twitter.

"Winston is over the moon," Mr Rolfe said.

"He is happy to be back at the office and is now just chilling with his friends."

Meanwhile Telkom said it could not be blamed for slow broadband services at the Durban-based company.

"Several recommendations have, in the past, been made to the customer but none of these have, to date, been accepted," Telkom's Troy Hector told South Africa's Sapa news agency in an e-mail.

South Africa is one of the countries hoping to benefit from three new fibre optic cables being laid around the African continent to improve internet connections.

Climb

Was a great climb session despite me doing like crap on the walls today.
Learnt lotsa stuff from climbing today - not only pertaining to climbing.
Gotta always be ready to learn from others.
Also, never give up till its totally over- unless its a TACTICAL RETREAT.

BJJ

BJJ (Brazilian jujitsu) yesterday was just insane!
It was my FIRST actual grapple and its was an INTENSE experience.
I was training with my brother in law and I was completely exhausted by the end of the round.

He set the clock for 3 mins, but when it rang, we just went on.
About 3 mins later after that, he had caught me in a triangle choke and I tapped out.
I practically gave him the choke though, I pretty much ran into it.
That shows how much lack of experience I have.

For those who dont know, heres a little intro into what the heck BJJ is, or at least how I got choked out.

I started off in this position, im supposed to be the topless one.

Some how my bro got me into this position

And heres where I dived right into him pushing his leg back thinking it would give me a chance to escape. Turns out that practically sealed my "fate".
And here we have the completed triangle and a very painful method of being choked out.
Do note that as much as it looks like wrestling, they are totally differnt stuff well not totally, but quite a fair bit different.

For those who dont know, I kinda busted my knee a little yesterday during the session and am limping/ was limping about a bit.
Well, its recovered quite a bit after resting a whole day at home so I think I should be ready in time for Ippt on Saturday.
Hopefully that is, lol.

Our brave reporter turned up at 9.45am only to find that HE WAS LATE!!!

Hell Week

Theres O(orientation) Week and then theres Hell week.

This is hell week.

Just as every sem before, theres always these weeks that will drive you nuts.

The week where EVERYTHING falls just in place and EVERYTHING happens..

In engineering, usually its assessments and laboratory reports or projects due.

This years' no different and heres the main course menu:

2 computing labs to finish from the week before.

1 computing lab assessment.

1 Electrical Engin lab with its HELL lab report that no one knows how to do and the lab tutor from hell - Ask samuel for more details, we did the lab together and are suffering the same fate..

1 Assignment for semi-conductors, which again, most of us are quite clueless on some parts

3 Undone tutorials ( just for this week, theres still LAST weeks and the week before that)

etc etc ....

Man ... I really should have considered further ahead when I picked my electrical engin Lab dates.

I made the worst mistake in putting it during super-lab week instead of next...

THEN AGAIN..... next week is my practical exam for computing ... so thats not much of an improvement at all .. -_-""

Climbing

Ahh.... what a long and tiring day.

Went to climbers laboratory today with Sam, Jie, Jen, Charlene and Sarah and I had a great time there.

Got to learn some techniques from Jie ling and she is good at what she does man...

Samuel is also a crazy ass climber, as most of them could see today, with his Dynos and leaps and sits and twists...... He was just FLYING all over man ... Charlene calls him spider-monkey ...

Charlene was gassed out after a couple of really exhuasting climbs and JEN WEN, was already aching before he started the climb.

haha cant blame him I guess, since he went for an insane canoe polo training and a run just yesterday, Lol ...

Then there was Sarah.

Man did she make us look like crap haha. She was so agile and nimble and managed to climb up everywhere!!

AND SHE CLAIMS she has no former training or knowledge....

We think she has been secretly training back in Australia, hahaha..

Anyhow, I thought it was a really enjoyable day today.

Tiring... but enjoyable.

Oh well, here comes READING week and I guess I better start gearing up to prepare for my mid-sem exams.

Ok, I have to give a warning now, if you view both my perth posts at the same time, it is A LOT OF photos to view, so be forewarned!!
Note to self, dont put so many picture intensive posts together.

Heres my selection of film shots from perth.
I used only my xa2 and 3 rolls of film - Agfa Vista 100, Precisa 100, Centuria 200
The vista 100, although not cross processed, did tend to turn out looking slightly saturated.
The precisa 100, obviously was saturated since it was cross processed.
The centuria 200, which passed over from Jen Wen was slightly over since i didnt completely set the right iso on my camera. ( Silly me )

Anyway ive no time to comment every pic so just enjoy them the way they are .. haha..

The trick to making a photo turn out just like this, is to sling your camera on your hand
then press the shutter while dropping the camera.
Remember folks! This was NOT AN ACCIDENT, even if Jeremy or Pow Wee recalls me accidentally dropping and pressing my camera.
DONT BELIEVE THEM !!!!

Hope you guys liked my film shots as much as I did.

Oh well there went my 3 month break, and the super perth trip.
Hence forth begins the next stage of my life, year 2.
Lots of things are already changing and the people I sometimes took for granted to always be Uni with me have changed course/left school/graduated.
I hope I do adjust fast enough and start studying from the start and not keep making the same mistakes.
I thank God for all he has seen me through for the last year and look forward to what else he has in store for me.

Perff - MILDY photo intensive ( I will have a different post for my film shots )

Been so long since i did a post I thought I should do something long for when i came back from perth.

Most of you should know by now that we are back.

The trip was pretty much a rush, but a really enjoyable rush.

I was seriously super exhausted by trying to arrange stuff but it was worth it in the end since the trip went pretty smoothly.

First I suppose I better thank those on the trip:

1) Mg for being treasurer and keeping the funds in order

2) Charlene for Doing her research for the trip despite the fact I under-estimated her (haha)

3) Jemy for the intensive driving dispite minor illnesses

4) Samuel for driving and not crashing when you were high on nerds (Dental advisory, hes a sugar junkie)

5) Jen Wen for helping navigate and act as co-driver. OH and your wonderful credit card..

6) Pow Wee for waking me up at 7 AM IN THE MORNING WHEN I SLEPT LAST AT 3AM and also for protecting the money mg was carrying

Anyhow it was a fun road trip in the end, short and intensive, but fun. If only we had a couple more days, then we wouldnt need to rush, but oh well...

I have to apologise first for the poor pictures taken by my me, i feel they really are sub-par.

Day 1:

The flight there wasnt as long as I thought it would be. Well, or rather as uncomfortable as I thought it would be.
Compared to the Hong Kong flight I took a year ago, I thought the flight this time was really smooth and time passed pretty fast.
Jem and I even said"what?! there already" - And this was after 5 hours in the plane.

Failed terribly at doing that, rather I recall it made me a lot hungrier....

By the time we left the airport and got to the hotel, it was pretty late, close to 1 if i remember correctly.
Anyway in the end we headed downtown to find food and BOY DID WE FIND FOOD. But guess who was finding food?

After a macs supper, we headed back to the hotel and guess what happened on the way back?
IT RAINED and froze us all up at the same time trapping us on one side of the road.
Oh well we just dashed across the road and popped back into the room for a shower and sleep.
To be more accurate, MOST OF US actually showered.
Hahaha SOME of us didnt shower.
Ill leave you guys to smell them out .. mmmmmmm

Day2:

I was awakened by a CRAAZZZZYYY guy at 7AM in the morning even though I told everyone to get ready by 8.30.
So after a little rolling around in the morning to wake all of us up, we left for breakfast at a nearby subway before heading off to Caversham wildlife park, AKA their zoo.
It wasnt a SUPER awesome zoo, but they had nice animals there and the farm show was quite interesting.

The wombat was really really really FAT, cow milking was fun, sheep shearing look hypnotic on the sheep(charlene the sheep look painful) and
most of the koalas and kangaroos/wallaby were ASLEEP ... seesh..

Hence ends the first day2, which was more like day 1 since day one was really more like NIGHT 1 but for ease ill call it day 1 and day2.

Day 3:
Jem, Mg and myself woke up to get the car from rental company.
Twas a COLD COLD morning and thank goodness we managed to get a coffee/tea at dome along the way to the rental company.
The flat white I had was pretty good and it really warmed me up well.... mm....... Picture again courtesy of Jemy - you can see the great drinks that warmed us up.

Anyway we managed to find our way to the rental place and picked up the Hippopotamus of a car.
I realised we dont really have pictures of the OUTSIDE of the car, but be assured, it was a horrendously huge car that can actually take about 8 people.
And i do mean 8 people with SEAT BELTS for each person.Not that most of the people behind worse beats anyway.

After picking the rest of them up and slowly figuring out how to work the drattedly small screened GPS, we headed down to fremantle to go to prison and eat fish and chips.

Er I didnt mean eat fish and chips in prison.

SOY if you hadnt guessed by now, is actually Shit on you .. hahah and i think they WILL do that.. Great fish and chips they served there!! only problem was that there was TOO MUCH CHIPS (again)

After the yummy albeit unhealthy fish and CHIPS(AGAIN!), we headed off to prison and just like monopoly, we were JUST VISITING !!

After the market, we got confused trying to figure out the fastest route there thanks to the stupid GPS going a bit crazy and we took quite sometime trying to get our way there.
Then when everything worked, it started to rain again.
At this point of course it didnt really mean that much to us, but BOY were we about to find out once we reached the next town that the temperature was REALLY going to drop.

After reaching the hostel at bunbury and stepping out of the car, we found smoke coming out of our mouths and yes, it was super COLD.
To make things worse, the hostel had no heating except for hot water in the showers which were communal.
So we had to prepare to rough it out in this weather
Anyhow, we headed to town for food which barely had anything open, so we settled for pizza at a local pizzeria that was one of the cheaper things that were open.

Thats the lot of us eating the pizza.
I thought the Meat lovers was pretty good... yum yum ... Nice and hot and delicious...

After that we left to return to the hostel again and checked out a couple of shops in town ( which were closed) .

HEH HEH... Caught the whole bunch of them checking out the goods at a sex store.. ahhaha...

Reaching the hostel again, we took FREEZING SHOWERS.
The shower was hot, it was when the showers STOPPED that it REALLY REALLY REALLY got cold.
And Jeremy ran to the showers topless!! brave hero indeed.
So anyhow we got into bed and despite the cold somehow we got to sleep.

Day 4:
Woke up early to get going down to Margaret River so that we could check out the sights there.
We went to a Chocolate Factory, Nut and Cereal farm, some wineries and one of their local caves there.

The vines at the vineyard were pretty much dead since it was the winter so not really any pics.
The Nuts and the cereal factory was mostly checking out the food on sale. Got some walnuts for my mum there.

That was where the ground used to be but was eroded by the lake in the cave.
Hence, its called LAKE CAVE.. hahaha what a name

This was the most stead shot i got, BUT i cheated, i balanced it on something.

Jeremy as happy as a cheerleader, so happy his head moved but his body didnt .. haha

After the caves, we headed off to find the cottage we booked at pemberton.
Well, actually we had lunch first, but as usual I have no photos on it.
Was fried chicken and CHIPS (AGAIN?!?!?)

My terrible photography skills mixed with a compact camera tends to end up in such horrid sub-par results, but the sky was really nice.

We finally made it to the cottage in Pemberton through the help of LOUSY GPS and Jen Wens wiki maps in the nick of time.
It was turned dark as you could see from the previous pic, a short while later it would turn completely dark.
I really should have loaded a more detailed google maps onto my phone but i had no time.
Oh well im back in one piece so lesson learnt ..

At the cottage, we made dinner there since there was pretty much no food available at that time of the night.
The cooking crew was made up of - Charlene, Mg, Me and for a bit Jen Wen
We had spaghetti with meat balls and sausage and some simple vegetables.
But in order to make the meal, you need the raw ingredients which we didnt have. so......
We drove out into town when it was dark, and if you looked into the mirror, you would realise that it was COMPLETELY COMPLETELY PITCH DARK.
You couldnt even see a foot behind the car.
I was more worried about animals that would suddenly run out and become road kill ..
I think those are more dangerous since you cant really see them except when they look at you.

I didnt get any pics of the dinner we made though, this again was courtesy of Jem.

Had dinner in front of the nice fireplace Nice citrus wine though not everyone liked the slightly too citrusy taste.. haha.
With Dinner done, the wash up crew kicked into action - Consisted on Samuel and Pow Wee and I cant remember who else.
The part that sucked about washing up was the FROZEN FATS AND OIL. YUCK.
It got stuck on our fingers. Gosh...

Once done with wash up, Jem, Sam and Dan went to take a bath in the ERATIC water.
It couldnt make up its mind if it wanted to stay cold or stay hot. If i flushed the toilet, the water would turn hot on samuel.
When Jem Turned the tap on to brush his teeth, the water would turn cold on samuel.
f course you could hear his screams a mile away... haha what a crazy friend.
After the nice cold/hot bath we all knocked out till the next morning.

Day 5:
After breakfast, scrambled eggs bacon toast and milk, which again we made ( Jen Wen and Myself since the rest needed a bit more sleep)
we headed off to Albany

Along the way we stopped by for a pee break and the 3 Doofuses ended up taking a leak into the forest since the toilet was SUPER SUPER SUPER dirty.
Anyhow that was where we began to find the road to Narnia in the valley of the giants!!

Day 6:
Stayed the night at The All Seasons Country Manna. It was a cheap and comfortable motel.
Only thing was I shared 2 single beds joined together with Samuel and Pow Wee.
When I woke up, I found Samuel and me pretty much sharing a single bed and Pow Wee hogging the WHOLE other bed to himself.
Apparently he pushed Koh over to myside in his sleep ...
Anyway breakfast we headed to the Gap and headed to the wind farm down by the coast.

Done with the coast, we headed off back to Perth via the Albany highway.
Was quite a long drive, about 4 hours if we didnt stop along the way, but of course we did so it ended up around 5. haha..

I think for the first time in my life i was really sick of all the fried food and junk I had been putting in my body.
The chips were always so salty that even the SALT QUEEN Charlene was sick of it!!

Signs to lead the way, but wait.. TO WHERE!??! ICTS?!?!? I DONT WANT ICT !!! NO IN CAMP TRAINING !!!!

This was actually the halfway mark where the drivers switched over though and we didnt stop after that so we reached back pretty fast.

When we finally reached the Perth area, we stopped by at sizzlers for our most expensive meal in the entire trip. It was $30 Aud
30AUD!!!!!!!!! - Jeremy was VERY unhappy.
He said he only has ONE AUD(RIE)!!!!
haha too bad audrie wont see this Jem...

Day 7:
The final day and final morning.

Samuel refusing to get up. After checking out we went for lunch on the streets. we sat some stairs and just had lunch there

It was always so cheap and nice tasting.. yum yum....

Seeing how much weight he put on, we decided that we needed to do some walking DESPERATELY.
So we walked up the hill to the war memorial.
Along the way we pass this bell tower.

Anyhow we checked in and a short while later guess what we found out, OUR FLIGHT WAS DELAYED.... by fifteen mins..
A bit later we found out it was further delayed!!! by another 15mins.. so it was 30mins...
It felt like forever though!! so in the end we took off at 1am in the morning.

Great thing about the flight was that I fell asleep shortly after taking off, and woke up twice.
Once to let Jem and Samuel go to the toilet, the other cause samuel said the stars was AWESOME and THEY WERE!!!!
They looked so close I could almost touch them.
Unfortunately , shortly after I saw the stars, I knocked out again.
The next thing I knew, the plane landed and was getting ready to dock.
YUP !!! I was completely KNOCKED OUT even during the landing, I didnt even wake up!! Lol..
Guess I was really too tired from the last day in perth.
Oh well... Good bye perth, despite the tiring preparations, I sure had a great time there with my pals.

To those who have actually spent their precious time to read this entire post, I sincerely thank thee.
I know it wasnt exactly short, but I thought it was high time i left something for others to see.

I once again apologise for my lousy pictures. This really probably my poorest documented trip so far.
Thank goodness theres Jem and the rest though, and you can be sure their photos are good!

Thoughts

Wow.... ages since i posted....

Thought I would leave something something that keeps popping my mind more recently.

I think anything thats bad can be good with the right company. From a boring movie, to a lousy concert to a holiday overseas...

I think the company makes a whole difference...

Especially for a movie that made you feel completely cheated..

A little update though, results for taming chaos is back and though I still wish i got bette, I have to thank God for my results. With a stupid paper that practically was not even done, the results I got were already a miracle..

Exams

Ah.... Special sem is finally over and i have to say that the module is by far the most unique of all the modules i have been taken.

Its one of the only where there hardly is any practice at all.

Tutorials are pretty much just going there to hear and re-inforce what we were supposed to already know from lectures, which isnt completely a bad thing actually.

Just that when I sat for the exam, i got quite a shock.

I did all the past year papers i could find - That comes to a grand total of 2 ..... 2 OUTDATED past year papers.

So outdated that the equations that were used were all different.

Anyway when I took the paper, I was completely shocked, I really didnt expect the questions to be so much harder than the pervious years. AND they were so mathematical.

At first one would think that for an engin student thats great news...

HOWEVER, the math was unlike what i normally do. It was kinda abstract and I really didnt know what I was meant to do.

Ah well its over and I guess I better start making good use of the time i have left till next sem.

On another note, I wish to apologise to Samuel, lijia and the rest of them who went to send Mg off.

I really was knocked out and i couldnt wake up to meet you guys, I even hung the phone just above me.

But in the end, the phone kept ringing but i was so zonked out I couldnt wake up.

Think I better go sleep soon as well, dont want to be late for church tomorrow..

IPPT: OVER

Results: Silver !

YOSH ! That means no more pushing myself when running and no more worrying about my diet! woohoo !! Thank God I made it! Standing-board jump, as usual, gave me the most problems.
How in the world do i improve enough to jump 235? I have no Idea, or rather I have no DETERMINATION hahaha... This time round, thank God i made it to 225 and that was just nice for a silver.

My Gold standard days are long behind me and My 2.4km timing already increased by 1 + min compared to last time haha, so I dont think ill ever reach 9.20 EVER in my LIFE again...
Its just too much of a hassle to train and run at that pace lol...

During IPPT I met 2 people i LEAST expected to meet there, SAMUEL CHEAM and DANIEL GOH.... Ok I admit ... Samuel cheam was more unexpected, but its really funny how i keep meeting him only in army places, haha PLUS hes like me, rushing to complete IPPT in time, lol.
Hes down to his 2nd last day. His birthday is this thursday. Lol..
Sadly, he didnt manage to do enough pull ups, oh man ... He can run, do sit ups and do everything else EXCEPT pull ups...

A Strategy I learned though, is do SIT UPS LAST. I couldnt believe How TIRED i was after sit-ups. Your back aches, your stomach aches and your LEGS ACHE. Dont ask me when they ached, they just did. BUT anyway, just dont do sit ups first unless youre already used to it.. Otherwise you'll just feel your engery ebb away like me... T_T ...
ANYWAY its over now so i think im just thankful for it.
Oh and congrats to Daniel Goh you got a silver too !

Taming Chaos

First lesson on how to tame chaos started this week.
I must say that the lecturer is pretty funny and is really quite interesting.
An Italian, hes pretty passionate about the chaos theory and all that, he takes quite a great deal of pains to explain the ideas and i guess it is really quite interesting to listen to it.
On the whole, the lecture is quite Philosophical, Mathematical and involves a fair bit of physics as well.

Of course he brought up the ever famous butterfly effect...
"A butterfly flaps its wings... a hurricane strikes miles away"
Contrary to what a lot of people think, the idea is that the flap of the butterfly wings, will cause different situations to take place which finally leads up to a hurricane,
NOT that the wings of a butterfly will cause a hurricane directly.
I mean, if youre samuel or mg of course thats no problem, but we're talking about a normal butterfly here.

Anyhow, its really interesting to be taking lectures with samuel again, it been about 5 years since I even studied anything with him?
So I think it should be quite interesting, especially since he will be one of the very few people I can study with who actually lives in the WEST..
Gosh ... all my other engin friends that I meet all live in the EAST or the NORTH....
I think once youre a westie, you dont really wanna turn back anymore.

On to another topic, since its the "holidays", i have FINALLY started and i realise i have A LOT of stuff to do.

For one, ive gotta continue to try and finish modding my computer casing.
Ive already bought my new com parts off the forums, which saved me quite a huge bundle, think it was a bout $100 or so...
But unfortunately I still have to modify my casing to take in new air ducts as it currently doesnt have sufficient airflow...
Ive pushed it aside for so LONG already, prolly about a year?
I finally gathered sufficient willpower to pull my lazy butt off the bed to start drilling holes and spray painting everything.
Thank goodness i already sanded down my casing last year, so all i have to do now is spray up the casing..

Another thing i gotta do is to repaint my room, its really due for a new paint job, but THIS is so much work, i think it take me another year just to get my butt of the bed again.. haha..

Another important thing is of course Dota. Cant forget that i have to play that.
Which of course I have already been playing quite a fair bit of, but as i did sound off the koh before, and i think we both do share similar sentiments - Dota brings out the worst in people.
Gosh I think I hardly ever get as agitated as when im playing that game.
To be more accurate, its only when you play against your friends where you get really agitated.
But at the same time, when you play against real humans, it also can be very very intense and exciting.
My andrenaline is ALWAYS pumping without fail everytime i get into battle...
Against AI ?? seesh ... thats easy cause they are predictable..
Anyhow, after a week long worth of dota campaigns, I think its nice to take a break for a day and skip dota-ing...

On to the next important item! DRAMAS....
I have to catch up with a lot of them and so far, I have been doing quite a good job!
Finally finished akaiito and meichan no shitsuji.
Started on bloody monday now, and its pretty exciting too..
One great thing is that now, with slightly better japanese, I can actually understand some of the things they say in japanese.
Yep, Ok back to Bloody Monday..........

Exams

EXAMS are over, which is an awesome thing to me ....
Been really busy since the end of exams though, went out with some classmates to catch wolverine immediately after the exam and i must say that the movie was really not bad, it was quite a change of the normal "happy- ending" movies, I thought that it was really nice to have a different ending from the normal ones I see.
Day 1 of freedom i spent the day at home playing dota with koh and aaron and mg..
Day 2 of freedom i met up with jap friends and had an unsatisfactory ramen meal, but the company more than made up for it..
Day 3 of freedom i met up with grace and koh for lunch and went to exercise a bit with koh before heading to meet up with YT and the usual study "gang" for dinner..
Yep, its really been quite a whirl the last few days. Unfortunately I also realised I havent been spending enough time with my parents, as such I think im gonna have to cut down a lot on going outs and at least making it home for dinner more often..

Yep, Starting to get a bit tired and I think ill have to post some of the pictures from my recent trip to Malaysia.. WAIT! not recent, but rather.... "recent" hahaha ... yep it was really sometime back ....
BUT at least im gonna post them, hahahaha...

Well here they are the pictures...
but FIRST ... I managed to find an old video from last year and subbed it for all the understand.
Please forgive the terrible subbing as I had a maximum amount of subs i could add to the into the video.
Windows Movie maker is too damn basic, they should call it basic movie maker.
Then again, the windows in the name already explains that it sucks..

Told you it wasnt that bad Yi Ning !! there are actually a couple of others, but since that would probably embarrass me I think i wont put them up, hahaha..
AND... Unfortunately, i really didnt take very much photos, i was really having waaaaaaaayyy too much funny messing around with the rest... so most of the pictures are of Yi ning ... and mg and maybe our lecturer.. 2 photos do belong to yi si though ... MG SEND ME the photos

Hmm... will have to try and drop by my bros place to try it on his mac .. hopefully it can convert it correctly ...

Oh well ... gonna hit the sack now ... tired from the days work .... sadly only managed to nearly catch up with math lectures, just the last 4 hours to go ...

最期日本語のクラス。。。

Yep, as mentioned above, it was my last japanese class today ....
Today Nagami 先生 went free style and let us do "Self Learning"...
Made a little "game" to play with friends and also brought in some books from outside.
Had a little corner for "listening comprehension" as well..
In addition to that, he brought in yukatas and let anyone who wanted to try them on, to try them on .. lol ..
I realised then that the ladies REALLY take a much longer time to put on their yukatas cause they really have A LOT more stuff to put on than the guys one..
Admittedly, ii ne, You did look pretty good in a yukata .. haha..
REMEMBER THAT ... Dont say i never said a good thing about you .. hahaha...

Anyhow, I think that Japanese this semester got really much harder but it was really equally enjoyable.
It was pretty much the "highlight of the week" every single week.
Its also one of the only subjects that I can remember myself complaining about so much homework, but still enjoy it.
In contrast, whenever i think about my other engin subjects, all I can think of is how much i dont understand and i how much work i have undone... Gosh ... And of course, not forgetting how much lectures i need to watch to learn up the stuff..

As I was revising with Mg for our oral exam tomorrow, we went through all the different conversations and skits that we did with other people through the course ( I wasnt in the same tutorial class with her) and really funny memories will keep coming back at every conversation.
たとえば。。。Fuzaifa san was really the vocab list of the class!! We always turned to him automatically when we needed to find the right word .. haha..
His expression everytime was always priceless as well.. Really funny guy..
Of course theres the skits, which Yu An acted as "L" in , she REALLY looked like him, and all the skits were really good, I think I really enjoyed my TB this year quite a lot as well, Just like last year, always full of crazy people haha..

Of course there TC where the 4 or 5 of us are always having fun and playing around. Think the most recent time was when IINE told teacher to hold a party at my house... -_-"" of course i said it was too small and we should hold it at HER house... Which she said was too FAR and said to hold it at CHONG sans house ... which he said was too inconvinient and to hold it at ............. You get the idea .. haha... Cracks me up everytime i think about it...
Of course theres the time when we saw hamasaki sensei and forced iine to say hi to him ...
And the couple of times i came to school early for TB only to find out that I was early by about an hour or so ?? haha ok .... too many other times to recount, but this sem was really quite a party thanks to Jap and the new people i keep meeting, たとえば : KAMERA, Yi Si ( iine whats his nickname ah ? ) Han san, "L" , Fuzaifa .... etc etc....

All this excitement really makes it quite sad to realize that next sem, and possibly the sem after that, I probably cant take japanese 3. I Have 6 mods to fufill next semester and i really cant take anymore than that, 5 mods is already too much for me and I still have my university level requirement of critical thinking and another mod to take...
Man, just like KAMERA said, I think most of us never really completely "Gets used" to NUS life..
Esp engineering students... Thankfully for Samuel, he wont have to deal with 6 mods, electrical engin doesnt really suffer from that..
Hence, it really sadens me to think that I wont be fighting with IINE and Kamera and messing around with Chong san and his "best friend" every tuesday/friday again....
Hopefully, if all goes well, I can apply for a summer exchange program to Japan next year for an exchange with one of the universities....
THAT is my biggest goal for 2nd year, and of course, anyone else interested in a summer exchange in japan let me know as well !!Maybe we could do try and worm our way into a "Summer (Holiday) exchange program" :) IIne maybe you can plan your grad trip there as well!!
To Samuel : NO PRIOR JAPANESE KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED, Could be helpful though... but some of the summer courses are in english and thus you shouldnt really need english all the time..

Anyhow, I think i didnt really take sufficient pictures today, but i wil try and post them up by tomorrow and of course, WITH a CERTAIN video .... :P
But i gotta add subtitles to the video first though, otherwise it wont make much sense to a lot of peeps..
Yep, guess after tomorrows oral, it will be the absolute end to my Japanese life in NUS...At least for a year... :( .. Anyone want to take lessons outside???

Once again .. back to my weBLASTed lectures and prep for Jap oral and my FINAL computing lab tomorrow( think its my 2nd most enjoyed module this sem)....

Long month ahead

Guess i really should update a bit more often.
Think ive gotten the lazy bug as I always seem to have math to study ... Sigh ..
Even as of now i really should be watching my math lectures to catch up and revise what i dunno but thought i should probably leave a short message..

Exams are really close now and i can literally smell its disgusting stench..
Somehow what calista said was right, or was it Yi si... Well, one of my jap classmates anyway, sem2 passes MUCH MUCH faster than sem1. Oh man, I really cant believe it but its time to really REALLY REALLY start mugging for my exams now.

Think I really will have to discipline myself to study and focus on my subjects now.
As such this friday, the supper at haato, will probably be me last day of fun absolute fun, till next month arrives.
Which is when samuel arrives, AKA CHAOS ENTERS NUS.

Managed to get the module taming chaos and ended up doing it with Samuel and to my surprise PK and another friend nic so happened to bid for it! wow... what a coincidence!
Dunno if Nic has already dropped the module though .. After he found out what its generally about he wasnt so keen ..

Hard to believe it but im almost done with first year.
Dang...

On a slightly more humourous note, i have to say a big thank you to someone for making me laugh ALMOST every single lecture.
Hes obviously not gonna see this so its fine cause he probably would kill me.
Eg of something he said last month:

Two friends were talking( me and another guy) about the legend of chun li when suddenly he popped in and said with complete confidence in his knowledge of chun li:

" Chun li?????? Chun li ?? OHHHHHHhh.... Chun li from MORTAL COMBAT AH??? Yea shes damn cool La !!!"

I really cant remember ANYTHING cause shortly after that the WHOLE back row was bursting in laughter and messing around with him already..
FYI for those who dont know, Chun Li is not from mortal combat, shes from street fighter !!
Dont worry Ish ! I wont reveal anymore information abot you catching a FRISBEE with 2 HANDS and 1 FOOT, and STILL MISSING it... Lol...
The crazy people i have in lecture... haha...
